The artist’s concept
In my recent works, I construct my narratives by reflecting on Shakespeare’s approach to the fantastical, Molière’s use of irony, and Alfred de Musset ’s notion of being “light yet profound.” While questioning these concepts, I also consider the perception of reality and its foundations as sought by a sensitive and attentive viewer within the pages of the pre-Renaissance.
Through the figure, I reflect on human relationships, and how emotions and behaviors have evolved—yet, paradoxically, how they have remained essentially unchanged. In a world that is constantly shifting and renewing itself, I question how realities, too, become slippery and undulating. I searched for—and shaped—this inquiry within the realm of irony.

Biography of the Artist
Gülercan Hacıoğlu is born in 1960 in Bulgaria. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia in 1989. He completed his postgraduate studies at the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University between 1995-1997.
